Weekly Devotion - Prodigal Son
Prodigal Son
By Pastor Peter Mueller
Friends, life can be tough and there are plenty of people who will point our your mistakes and flaws. We even do this to ourselves, and when we don’t, Satan is there to remind us and accuse us of our shortcomings. The great news is that no matter what the enemy throws at you, you are your heavenly father’s adopted son/daughter. That means three things: 1) You are loved, 2) You are not alone, and 3) You have what it takes to face the challenges that come your way. This is awesome - but sometimes it can be hard to trust because so much has suggested otherwise for so long. The invitation from God today is to reject living like an orphan where life is up to you and to instead trust your good heavenly Father for everything you need to rise and rise again in faith in Jesus as you face the challenges of life. May your heart be filled with joy as you respond to the invitation to live like who you are: an adopted and deeply loved son or daughter of a good, good Father who happens to also be the King of the universe!
Last Sunday, we reflected on the story of the good father in the parable of the prodigal son. Click here to read a compelling version of this story written from the first-person perspective of the prodigal son (written by Morgan Snyder of Become Good Soil and Wild At Heart). It will help you imagine what the prodigal son might have been feeling and how incredible his father’s demonstration of love was for him. Understanding that can increase your appreciation of your heavenly father’s love for you!
