Jesus Eating Breakfast by the Sea and in Our Homes

By Patra Mueller, Family Life Minister

Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of 153 large fish, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.  John 21:10-14

Like the disciples, the burdens of life can often leave us distraught and frustrated. Many of you know that last month we lost a dear brother in Christ, Kory Davidson to cancer. His wife, Tonia is a close friend of mine.

Last night I had an amazing dream. In my dream, Jesus came to the Davidson home. Their house was a quaint deli/restaurant & as I entered the “Closed” sign was posted on the door. There wasn’t much food left inside except for some raw fish in the display case behind the counter. Jesus was there with arms open wide inviting the Davidson girls to breakfast. His eyes were smiling and full of life and love. His presence filled the whole room. He kept saying “Come and eat with me. I will make you breakfast.”

It was such beautiful and refreshing picture. I woke up reassured and encouraged knowing that Jesus will be with Tonia and her three daughters in the days and weeks ahead.

After I shared my dream with Tonia, she wrote back that a friend had delivered a special breakfast of tea and biscuits! It was just the encouragement she and her girls needed to start their day.

Where do you need Jesus to show up in your life? I pray this picture is a reminder that the abiding presence of Jesus is always with you to encourage and comfort you. Secondly, do you know someone who might need Jesus to show up in their life? Is God calling you to be His abiding presence to bring encouragement and comfort?
