ACOLYTE TRAINING FOR THE YEAR 2022
One of the most popular service ministries here at Hope is the Acolyte Program, and the best part of it is that being an Acolyte involves the youth of our Church. It’s an excellent way for our young people to begin a lifetime of service to the Church as a whole and to our Lord Himself!
The concept of connecting Light with God runs through the entire Bible. Psalm 27 says, “The Lord is my Light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?” In Isaiah we read, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light…” In the Gospel of John we hear Jesus saying, “I am the Light of the world…whoever follows me will have the Light of Life”. And finally, for the purposes of this paragraph, we hear John saying, “God is Light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”
Bringing the Light of Christ into a worship Service tells the people gathered together that worship is about to begin; it’s time to put away the cares of this World and focus upon the Love and Grace that our Heavenly has for us through His Son Jesus. And to carry the Gospel into the midst of the gathered assembly is to do exactly what God Himself did by sending His Son to live as a human being in the midst of the people of that time and for all time. We always emphasize that to be an Acolyte, to bring the Light and the Gospel to the people gathered for worship is a great honor and privilege!
Our Acolyte training will take place on Sunday, October 2, 11:45-12:15. It will be in the front of the Sanctuary. We’ll briefly go over the duties of an Acolyte, the use of symbols in the Church and we’ll have a “hands on” opportunity to light the candles and carry the Gospel.
If you have any more questions or concerns or if your child wants to be an acolyte but won’t be here that day, please contact Deacon Dan Jackson at You can also contact the Church office and leave a message with them.
I look forward to knowing your children and sharing with them the Love of the Heavenly Father through His Son, Jesus Christ.
