If you read the Bible without reading it in context, it’s possible to walk away concluding that God hates shrimp but might be ok with slavery. Learning how not to read the Bible is critical if you want to make sure whether these conclusions are accurate or not. This week’s message will explore how we can make sense of some of the strange things in the Bible, especially in the Old Testament, that seem weird or even terrible when we read them today. The key is learning to read these passages within the context of the larger biblical story and how they fit into that story. The good news is that there are really helpful answers available to help you understand what’s going on in those passages and why, and methods you can learn to help you as read other parts of scripture.
BIG IDEA QUESTION: What is one rule, custom, or habit that was practiced before your time that doesn’t make sense to you? It could be something from your parents, grandparents, or ancient history.
