As products of their time in the larger story of humanity, both the Old and New Testaments describe broken relationships between men and women — in society, in the home, and among God’s people. However, in the beginning, this was not so — both men and women were tasked with ruling and caring for creation, and the biblical vision of both the Old and New Testaments is that the Spirit has gifted both male and female believers to participate in the redemptive work of bringing the Kingdom of God even now, and one day joining Jesus in bringing it in fullness when he returns. The challenge is that we live between the beginning and the new beginning — we are redeemed while yet struggling with sin, and men and women partnering and sacrificially loving each other and the world can only happen in the power of the Spirit who lives in both.

BIG IDEA QUESTION: What is one time when you helped to fix something good that was broken? What was difficult about putting the pieces back together?
