A New Series on the Psalms!

By Patra Mueller, Family Life Minister

For the rest of summer we will be studying a different Psalm each week in worship. The first Psalm we studied this past Sunday was Psalm 1. This Psalm has a special place in my heart because I remember memorizing it on a family vacation when I was in elementary school.  Then, when I had the privilege of becoming a mom, this Psalm was included in our evening prayers that we prayed over our children as we tucked them into bed at night.  It is very short and simple, but has a very profound and clear message: God desires to bless his children.

Psalm 1

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—

  whatever they do prospers.

4  Not so the wicked!

They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

5  Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6   For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

During this series, we are encouraging you to choose a verse or verses to meditate on and memorize each week. The chosen verses for this week are Psalm 1:1-3 that are highlighted above. May the Holy Spirit bless and encourage you as you picture your life as a healthy tree flourishing and yielding fruit in God’s Kingdom. May the Holy Spirit convict you in areas where more growth could occur as you let go of your ways and trust in His ways. Our Father longs to bless us!
