We often gather in worship hoping to receive encouragement and hope for the week ahead. People have left churches because they didn’t like the music or they didn’t feel “fed” by the sermons. In Corinth, some Christians were saying they were better than others because of the particular gifts the Spirit gave them, but in reality they were making a mess of the worship gathering by making it all about them. Still others got drunk and ate all the communion bread before the poorer members of the church arrived. Both then and now, it’s important for us to remember that worship isn’t about you! It’s about gathering with brothers and sisters in Christ to praise the King of Kings, the one gave His life for us, and to receive from Him the gift of His word and love.
