Many people view Jesus as a meek and mild shepherd with children sitting around Him. Most also see him as the one who willingly gave his life on the cross to pay for the sins of the world. While the four Gospels do portray Jesus as someone who could be gentle and full of compassionate love, what is less often contemplated and even less often depicted in Christian art is this: Jesus is also someone who was not afraid to speak truth to power, to challenge those who were abusing authority, and on one occasion to even use physical action to make a point. The good news is that Jesus follows in the footsteps of Israel’s prophets in this way - and He does so specifically to communicate the possibility of relationship with His Father by grace through faith!
