Whether we realize it or not, we’ve all been shaped and formed by those who have gone before us and modeled ways to live. These include teachers, bosses, coaches, and parents—in the best scenarios, their influence is wholesome and positive, but the reality is that their influence is sometimes bad, merely underwhelming, or even absent. As we celebrate dads, grandpas, and father figures on this Father’s Day weekend, we’ll look at the story of old Zorro adopting a lost and angry young man and mentoring and fathering him as his protege until he becomes the new defender and champion of the people. This powerful story illustrates what it looks like to father and mentor others well, regardless of our stage in life. It’s also an invitation to receive God’s continued fathering and guidance of us as we navigate this life through faith in him.

BIG IDEA QUESTION: Tell about someone who has mentored you and or to whom you have been a mentor.
