We often think of Jesus as the glorious king of the universe (which he is), but that’s not how he first appeared to humanity. He was born in a barn, raised in obscurity, and was accessible and available to regular people even as the spotlight began to shine on him as a result of his teaching, healing, and working miracles. His story is filled with unlikely “everyman” characters - and it’s for them and for us that he came to be with us as loving savior, humble servant, and yes, glorious king. This Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Advent as we prepare our hearts to celebrate his birth and look forward to his return one day.
