In a time of being militarily occupied and subdued by godless Romans, the 1st century Jews were good and ready for a Savior to come and rescue them and restore their homeland. When Jesus came on the scene and was doing the things they expected the Messiah would do, people got excited and welcomed Him with a premature victory parade on Palm Sunday, assuming that He would militarily kick out their Roman oppressors. While Jesus did come as Savior and King, the people didn't know yet that His Kingdom would be unlike any other they had imagined - and better by far. This weekend, we too can celebrate the coming King of Kings as we eagerly wait for His return!
