Whether or not seeds grow into healthy, strong plants and trees has a lot to do with the quality of the soil they are planted into, the growing conditions providing enough water and light, and much more. Jesus suggests the same is true of our faith: He sows the seeds of His Word, but there are lots of things that can degrade the quality of the “soil” of our hearts into which His Word is planted. The question is: how can we “become good soil” in our hearts so that God will multiply the impact of the seed of His Word in and through our lives? On this Pentecost Sunday, we give thanks that God sent His Spirit into our hearts to transform the soil of our hearts and make the seed of His Word grow as we depend on Him in faith. This is true for the young students confirming their faith this Sunday and for all of us.
